It has been 3 years since I quit my corporate design job to pursue my art dreams. The Cowgirl Mermaid has kept me going through all the ups and downs. Mermaids are shape shifters and I have definitely transformed. But somethings have stayed exactly the same. It is strange when you change while staying in place. I never thought my largest transformation would take place in my hometown. This is the scariest place to do that. But what would the Cowgirl Mermaid do? I could have never guessed where this would all take me, coming out of the closet at 35. I have no idea what happens next but what I do know at the end of the day I'm just Courtney, and the Cowgirl Mermaid makes me much braver at being myself. I started taking yard photos that first summer when I didn't know what else to do. It has turned into a interesting self portrait journey, here are some of them
